This week Sci-Fi became SyFy and like the bottle of champagne on the bow of a ship, they crashed into their new persona with new shows.
Warehouse 13 would be one of these shows.
This, my friends, is the story of two secret service agents Pete Lattimer [Eddie McClintock] and Myka Bering [Joanne Kelly] who are the “best of the best” and because they are so “best” they are sent to the middle of now where to work with Artie Nielsen [Saul Rubinek] at the elusive “Warehouse 13.” A.K.A. “America’s Attic.”
The pilot was 2 hours long, which is a bit long for a Tuesday night and from what I can tell, “W-13” will also be airing on USA, BRAVO and Oxygen.
That’s a lot of cable stations…
There was a Fringe feel to the show, but I kinda liked it. Yes, there were very cliche moments, like the fact that Bering is “straight laced and pays attention to details” and Lattimer “is laid back and just lives life by the seat of his pants!” (and he’s psychic) but let’s look at it like this:
- Tricia Helfer and Michael Hogan were shown in one of the “coming this season” trailers.
- CCH Pounder has a reoccurring role.
- Artie is portrayed by Saul Rubinek.
In my little dork kingdom those three things are golden. We have the hot robot and cranky “final 5” robot from BSG, the voice of Amanda Waller on the JLA cartoon and, well, Saul Rubinek has been around for years with good reason!
So yes, the show it getting not so great reviews. People are stating that the new even special “SyFy” may have changed their logo but not the package deal of the show – and maybe they’re all right. But maybe that’s not necessarily a BAD thing. I mean, NBC is showing things like Merlin (which is being bested by repeats) and running mini-series called The Meteor and The Storm – both very Sci-Fi… I mean SyFy. (By the way, marketing guys, Sci-Fi stands for Science Fiction. What the hell does SyFy stand for? Oh, and yes, I know that NBC Universal owns SyFy – but still – showing Sci-Fi type shows on prime time is a bit of a big deal in my world.)
I think that Warehouse 13 has room to grow and I’m going to give it a chance. I think you should give it a chance too. I say, if they can renew Dollhouse… well, Warehouse 13 may not be that obnoxiously “sexy” but it looks like its going to be fun and I can dig fun.
