Legend of the Seeker – CW Saturdays 8-10pm

Legend of the Seeker is based on a series of books by Terry Goodkind called “The Sword of Truth.”  Mr. Goodkind is also writing the series, which makes me happy because sometimes having another writer rethink your concept for television means you’re gonna lose the heart and soul of the series.

Sam Raimi [Xena: Warrior Princess, Evil Dead, Spider-Man] helped produced 16 of the 22 episodes.  Kenneth Biller [Smallville, Dark Angel] helped produce all 22 episodes.

Here is the plot [as written by Terry Goodkind]:

Millions of readers the world over have been held spellbound by this valiant tale vividly told. Now, enter Terry Goodkind’s world, the world of The Sword of Truth. In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher’s forest sanctuary seeking help…and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence. In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword-to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed…or that their time has run out. This is the beginning. One story. One Rule. Witness the birth of a legend.

OK – so the show can be a bit cheesy, and sometimes there is a bit over use of slow motion (more in the beginning episodes than the later) but I say – it is just a fun fantasy story to let yourself get caught up in it!

The show is played in 2 hour blocks on the CW but can also be seen on on Chicago’s own WGN on Saturdays at 5pm and an encore presentation an hour before hand (so the same 2 hour block…)

I know the days of Xena, Hercules, Jack of all Trades, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., and even Cleopatra 2525 are long gone, just like the 90’s, but I just really like this show!   Yes, I know it seems I only talk about shows I really like (Dollhouse being the exception)  but like I’ve said before, I just blog about show I watch and I watch them BECAUSE I like them.  And I’m telling you to give Legend of the Seeker a chance.

To add a bit more to the pot, I’m going to put on here a interview with the lovely Bridget Regan – who plays Kahlan Amnell – from Attack of the Show [AOTS] and let her charm you into watching it.

So take a chance, go out on a limb, and check out Legend of the Seeker either on the CW on Saturdays from 8-10pm or on WGN also on Saturday from 4-6pm.  Next week seems to be a repeat, but you’ve gotta start somewhere now don’tcha?!
